APA-NJ Partnership with NJRI

Redevelopment is a procedure used to revitalize distressed neighborhoods, address the effects of underused and neglected parcels and enhance the economic conditions of a municipality. Accompanied by sound planning and execution, redevelopment ultimately allows residents, stakeholders and local government officials to produce invaluable changes to our communities.

The purpose of this course is to further educate locally appointed and elected municipal officials and community based organizations about the Redevelopment process. More specifically, this course will:

Discuss the roles and responsibilities of participants in the redevelopment process

Provide illustrative examples of short- and long-term impacts that planning board decisions may and have produced on developing, distressed and/or vibrant communities and downtown corridors; and

Identify and explain legislation, regulatory tools and incentives that are used in the redevelopment process.

Finally, this course will provide grassroots organizations with information that will enable them to sufficiently communicate with participants in the redevelopment process when initiatives are envisioned, initiated or underway in their communities.
